Weird Al Yankovic - Canadian Idiot

Okay, this is really just inspired by a bunch of complete idiots I had to talk to today. I originally wanted to post American Idiot but I can't stand Green Day and well... one of the guys that really pissed me off today was Canadian, so as much fun as it would be to poke fun at the Americans it wouldn't be fair. Anyway, here ya go, enjoy.

Britney Spears - Toxic

First of all, note the correct spelling of her majesty the Pop Princess's name. Britney has had her ups and downs and I respect if you don't like her music, but she's an iconic symbol of our generation whether you like it or not.

She's sensational, because you either love her or hate her, and the whole world has an opinion about her but the whole world KNOWS her, and know the lyrics to her songs. (NOT JEFF APPARENTLY, because he has no friends and live under a rock.)

Those guys below with all those mock Brits are obviously just obsessed with the idea of banging her. Although we can all see, the original Britney is hotter than all those fake blonds combined.

Static Lullaby - Toxic

Remember when Brittany made her come back? no, not that one, the other one, to the left, no MY left... Okay, the comeback with Toxic. That was a good song that could get stuck in even a pop haters head. I will freely admit to that.
Well her is a video by the band "Static Lullaby." I'm not here to talk about them though, but a great new CD that has just come out last month: Punk goes Pop (vol.2) which is full of great songs being covered by punk, rock, and metal bands.
My Grade 10 Social Studies teacher once said: "I like the song Toxic, I just wish it wasn't Brittany Spears singing..."
I'm sure he would enjoy this version much better.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Little Shadow

Okay so originally I wanted to post something by Karen O, the lead singer of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, because she released this obscure little album of random tracks (I mean really random), but of course it's not on youtube and I'm a little too lazy at the moment to make a video. All of this to say that here's a track from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This is, by the way, not the original track of Little Shadow, but the bonus track that's a little different, has more instruments and strings which is always good. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are awesome, much more upbeat than this song indicates but this is my favourite. Check out some of their stuff.

Globus - Take me Away

Globus is not so much a band, as a collection of artists.
You know when you watch a movie trailer and you hear a really epic original song? Well Globus was formed from a large amount of Producers, musicians and vocalists from Immediate Music. Immediate music is the company that makes most of the music you hear in cinema trailers.
So Globus is sort of a side project for them, Coming from a large demand in the UK to hear more of their distinctive music without having to buy 20 different movie soundtracks. Globus provides distinctive music that is hard to find anywhere else, with a full orchestra backing them up, they get labeled as Epic Rock.

Be Your Own PET - Becky

In the same vibe as The Ting Tings, this is yet another upbeat group that I'm listening to as a preparation for sunnier days. Be Your Own PET is from musical capital of Nashville, Tennessee. Needless to say, all four members have high credentials when it comes to music. Unfortunately, these four talented musicians announced last year that they will be disbanding. Well, I hope this won't be the last I hear of them. In the meantime, enjoy Becky.

Patrick Watson - The Great Escape

Okay so Patrick Watson is normally the type of music that I find boring, and some of you might find it boring, but there's an eerie attraction to it. I'm not entirely sure what it is. At first I thought this unobtrusive sound would be great for studying but it just turns out to be really good at putting me to sleep at the desk. My enjoyment of Patrick Watson is strange to me, I don't like the sound and it's kind of anti-climatic to me, but at the same time I can't stop listening. Well you can decide for yourself.

Maximum the Hormone - Chu Chu lovely muni muni mura mura

From the depths of the very weird, past the hall of "Seriously, WTF?" and into the corridor of what should not have been created, I bring you Maximum the Hormone. A very weird Japanese band, basing themselves mostly in the metal genre, but the female singer adds a large pop-type feel to the mix.
To answer some questions that may come up:
1. I do not know what the lyrics are, 90% of them are in Japanese anyways, only that it is really weird (yet somehow addictive)
2. I could not post the full title of the song, that is seriously only half of it.
3. Yes, this is a joke.

Happy St.Patricks day (Although I should probably post an Irish song...)

The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name

Certain people go through mood swings that coincide with seasonal or weather pattern changes. I'm one of those people; my moods depend heavily on the color of the sky and the temperature outside. On top of that, my music taste also match up with the season. It's finally starting to warm up (a little) here in the great white north, and I'm starting to dig into my more upbeat pop collection. Last summer, I was all over The Veronicas, before they hit big in North America btw. This time around, it's all about The Ting Tings.

This poppy British duo is bound to hype you up for oncoming warmer days. Their sound is a little electro, a little pop, and some major attitude (as all great music should have). Enjoy!

Powerglove - Mario Minor

It has been awhile since I have posted, but fear not, for I have returned with many new songs and bands to share with you all.
Today I bring you Powerglove. I have always been looking for a band that plays videogame music professionally like these guys. There are many bands that play this sort of music, but only a few songs unfortunately. Meanwhile, Powerglove already has two CD's out with nothing but metal covers of Tetris, Sonic, Power Rangers, and so on.
I hope you enjoy the nerd-metal styling of Powerglove:

Scotch - Poppins

Okay brace yourself, because this is some good sh** coming up. My friend Sara showed me the music of her friend who's part of a group called Scotch. They're based here in Montreal, very local, very underground. They have a very jazzy smoky piano bar feel and some awesome awesome instrumentalists. The person who really takes the spotlight here, however, is the lead singer/piano/guitar, Declan O'Donovan. Not only does this guy have some tight tight piano solos, he has the sexiest voice you'll ever hear. The way he croons those lyrics, a weaker woman would feel violated. Okay, enough intro, just listen. If you want to check out their myspace (because it's really hard to find for some reason!) here it is:

Denali - French Mistake

As previously promised, this is Maura Davis's other project Denali. It's a very similar sound as Ambulette, a little bit more ambient this time I think. I must be honest, I'm not a 100% convinced by Maura's voice, but it has its haunting moments. Good music nevertheless.
